He surveyed his opponent carefully as she picked up a weapon that she had experience with, in contrast to Aiden who was just starting out with his sword. Of course, the basics were simple; swing with some force, stab, or parry. Of course, if he did it right, that wooden staff would stand no chance against the sharp blade of the sword. Already the hilt was becoming comfortable in his palms, and he lifted it back into the air as she stepped forward. This was a match that was purely for fun, and while it was still a learning experience, it wasn't a match where he would be flipping Teagan over for revenge. "Hey, no hard feelings, right?" he said as they started, circling each other around the mat.
He had readjusted his grip momentarily, letting one of his hands stretch out slightly from his earlier onslaught of attacks on the dummy. Teagan started laughing at him, and almost instantly made the sword clatter out of his hands, ringing through the room. It was easy to see that he was relatively surprised, but nevertheless, he moved over to his weapon, picked it up, and frowned at Teagan. "Was that necessary? And do me a favor, don't get cut. You're not expendable like that dummy over there," he said, and before she could make a joke out of it, he added, "and no, I'm not said dummy."
Resetting his grip into a more correct way, Aiden took a step forward and swung from overhead, watching the staff catch it as Teagan moved to block it. A small indentation was made, and Aiden turned the sword flat on its side, and let it slide against the wood until it separated, and he took another swing. He definitely wasn't used to this fighting style, and if she was paying attention, she would see that his footing was still off, and most likely a weak spot.

"Are you sure about that?" Teagan teased, taking the moment to readjust her grip before reseting to a defensive position. "I'd say that's still up for debate."
His response was to attack again, and she easily fell into the rhythm of the fight. Step forward, staff up to block, slide, and shuffle back before taking another step forward again. Her heart pounded in excitement. How long had it been since she had used the weapon in a mock fight? Probably just under a year, she mused, remembering the look on her father's face when he had lost a bout for the fifth time in a row.
Aiden swung again, and Teagan stepped forward to catch it, harmlessly guiding the sword to the side. Now it was time for her to attack again. Her eyes quickly examined the stances both of them had taken, noting that Aiden didn't quite have a hold on the proper footing. Again, it was an important step to learn even if it was one that many people found extremely dull.
Teagan pushed up with her staff, forcing the boy to raise his arms as well. Without warning she reached around his arms and grabbed the hilt. She tugged hard and pulled him behind her, causing him to lose his balance. With a flick of her wrist, the end of the staff pointed threateningly at Aiden's neck. Checkmate. Of course, the only downside to this move was that Aiden had more than six inches than she did, and if he didn't take the hint and let go of his sword, his weight would probably drag her down as well.
