Ruby twirled the phone in her hands over the table top. She tried to distract herself from her fears by wondering why the French fries were taking so long. Seriously ever since she’d got back from her little jaunt in hell the service everywhere had painfully slow. Maybe a bit of hell had followed her up. French fries and there frustrating delays sadly weren’t the worst of her problems. The Winchesters, more importantly Sam, were missing. She’d been working so hard and then they just poof out into nowhere. All her spells, contacts, nothing showed her where the brothers might have been. In fact she only recently found their last location. On a whim he decided to come to Austin and try and contact the local hunter. Glancing down at the phone again she tapped her finger against the “send” button. How embarrassing was it that the big bad demon chick needed to run to the hunters for help? Frowning she finally pushed the button. “Hello,” she said after the phone picked up, “This is Jefferson, right?”

Jefferson had finally returned back to Austin. He could not say home sweet home, for any place he lived in could not be called a home. If it wasn't for Casey he wouldn't have stayed here for more then a week. The hunts he had gone on was having a huge toll on him. Mentally and physically tired, Jefferson wished for nothing better to do but sleep. Still driving on the road though made it impossible for him to receive some shut eye. Thankfully he had arrived at his hotel.
Walking up to the door, Jefferson clumsily took out the keys to the door. Fumbling to get the key into the door knob, Jefferson had to stop for his cell began ringing. Dropping the keys, he took out the phone and answered it with a grunt. A female voice asked if it was him.
"Yeah, that's my name. Sorry, but I think you have the wrong number." Jefferson asked in a groggy voice. He was just glad it wasn't Casey calling to give him another case. He knew that if the woman was asking specifically for him that the number she called was right, but as of right now he was just too tired to care.

Ruby looked down at her phone in disgust. Weren’t hunters supposed to be helpful? Sam and Dean had been. Maybe they were the exception not the rule. They were certainly a lot younger than several of the other hunters she’d encounter. Definitely a plus in her mind, Sam would have been half as fun if he was in his forties. “First of all Jefferson isn’t up there with John and Mike,” she tapped her nails against the plastic table, “So it’s unlikely there’s another hunter in Austin with that name”. She dragged her nails over the table in impatience. After months of running around this was her taste of actual progress. She was not going let some asshole take away her bread crumb. Especially without French fries damn it. “Look I need to talk to you about the Winchesters, I’m in the Grand connection Café. Meet me here if your amnesia goes away.” She jabbed her thumb into the end button and dropped the phone into her jacket pocket. Rubbing her borrowed temples she tried to control her breathing. It was going to be a long day.

Jefferson's ears began to burn at the sound of the Winchester name. All the aches of sleep washed away from him, causing a sense of nausea to arise. He felt sick to the stomach and did not know how to react to this new bit of information. Would he be able to gain information from this woman, or was he walking into a trap? It didn't feel like a trap, but a feeling wasn't a hundred percent correct. Before he could tell Ruby he would meet up with her, she hung up. Picking up the keys, Jefferson went back to his car and drove on.
Paying attention to traffic and listening to the radio were the only two things keeping Jefferson busy at the moment. The thought of turning back and falling asleep entered into his mind, although it was too late now. He had reached the front entrance of Grand connection Café. Parking his car, he loaded his gun, hid it, and walked inside. The gun was more of a force of habit then a security measure. Looking around the room, he headed toward the only agitated woman.
"Are you the one who called me?" Jefferson asked quietly.

“Here you are Miss,” the waiter lowered the order in front of her with a plastic smile. “Took you long enough,” she grumbled as she slid the basket toward her. Reaching across the table she grabbed the glass ketchup bottle. After a few quick shakes she had a puddle of red on a separate plate. Finally something was looking up. She’d just started making a dent in the pile when she heard a voice next to her. She looked up at Jefferson in disinterest and back down at her food. “Yeah,” she dropped her the fries in her hand back down, “Thanks for finally showing up. What is it with this town and everybody taking they blessed time by the way?” Ruby motioned for him to sit across from her and crossed her legs. WIth luck Jeff was more accommodating than timely.

Jefferson began to study Ruby's physical appearance. Maybe it was because he was a male, but he thought he could take her on. Trying to avoid the sexist thoughts from his head, Jefferson sat across from Ruby, just as she had motioned. For now he had to obey all of her commands, for he did not know what kind of woman she was. Any little thing could easily keep this information about the Winchesters away from him.
"I don't know about the other people in this town, but I took my sweet time because it's dangerous to drive when your sleep deprived." Jefferson answered. He didn't wish to sound so much like a jerk, but sleep was such an important part of life. After keeping quiet for some time, Jefferson began again, "Fine. I need to know two things from you. One is what is your name, and the second is what do you know about the Winchesters?" Heading straight into subject, Jefferson eagerly awaited the answer.

Ruby rolled her eyes, “Excuses, excuses.” She uncrossed her legs and returned to her food. If Jefferson made her wait, she would return the favor. After a few minutes of puttering she decided to answer his questions. “You can call me Ruby,” She looked at him from across the table, “and I’m pretty sure I know more about them than you do. So to avoid repeats why don’t you tell me what you know first?” She leaned back in the chair. Her body language clearly saying she was done talking for the moment. Now she had to wait.

Days of searching, hoping to find the Winchesters seemed over. The joy of continuing his life began to overflow Jefferson. That was until Ruby stayed quiet for the longest time. The girl that whined to him for making her wait, was now taking her sweet time. Tapping his fingers on the table, Jefferson waited for her to begin. After what seemed an eternity, the only information he received was her name. A bit ticked off, Jefferson recollected everything he knew.
"Let me think. Sam and Dean are gone. Some of their allies are gone. A guy named Casey is telling us what to do. Oh, and I'm tired. That's all I know." Jefferson spoke. He needed sleep, and fast. The longer Ruby kept him busy, the closer he would be to falling asleep. The chance that he will learn something new was keeping him a wake right now. He waved his hand, passing the conversation back to Ruby.

Ruby looked up at the mention of Casey. Her fries abandoned and eyes on Jefferson. After an involuntary gasp she leaned forward slightly. “So he does exist!” she hissed, trying to keep her voice down. She’ heard about the mysterious man but until now it had just be suspicions. None of her contacts knew him and the hunters were talking to her without the Winchesters. As far as they were concerned she might have been in on them going missing. “Look, this won’t sound important but I can tell you this,” she continued after recovering herself, “Their disappearance isn’t an accident.” Ruby looked away for a second, “they aren’t just underground or on a long hunt. Something made them vanish and I have no clue what it is. It ain’t the demons I think because, well…” she cut her self off, “Well let’s just say I have a pretty good idea for why it isn’t the demons.”

Jefferson smiled when he heard Ruby say that Casey did exist. Even though she tried to keep quiet, he was still able to make out the words in her voice. So he knew something the wise Ruby did not. Keeping a mental score in his head, Jefferson was up by one. If Ruby gave him decent information she would be up by a million. If not, then he had no reason to stay any longer. After hearing her bit on information on the Winchesters, Jefferson stood up to leave.
"That isn't information. Any one with half a brain can figure out they aren't on a hunt, or that they are underground. One, if they were on a hunt, we could easily find them. Clues would be easy to find, plus other citizens would have seen them passing by, or at least Dean's car, two, there is no way the Winchesters would go underground, unless it's to fight a monster. They aren't the kind to go into hididng, and three, I don't believe the demons have anything to do with this either. They don't have enough guts to pull off something this big." Jefferson finished, and walked off. This was a waste of his time.

Ruby shot up in a blind fury. How dare this hunter, this man, insult her? She risked her neck and other vital parts to be here. There was no way she was just going to let him walk off. She allowed him to get outside before walking up to him and grabbing a hold of his arm. “It’s good info Damn IT!” She growled gripping his arm harder, inhumanly so. “The demons would have loved to claim credit. Getting demonic enemy numbers one and two off the streets, plus it’s great for street cred you idiot.” She let go of his arm and stalked off before quickly turning back and getting in his face, “Lilith is missing too you idiot. Do you know what that means? We got the team captains missing on both sides and no one knows why.”

Jefferson felt the sensation of his emotions running wild again, yet he didn't know why. Clenching his teeth, Jefferson gave a quick look over at Ruby and realized it was her that was angry. Cursing her under his breath, Jefferson made his way to his car. A hand gripped his arm. He was about to punch the person in the face when Ruby began talking. Good info? Street cred? Him being an idiot? Jefferson was about to yell at Ruby when she turned around to leave, which made him slightly happy, until she returned. Then she finally did give him some good news.
"Lilith is missing too, huh. Now that is news to me. If Sam and Dean are in the same place together, then Lilith is close by to them. I'll stay and chat, unless that's all you have to say to me." Jefferson said to Ruby. As long as she was angry, Jefferson wouldn't be able to keep his cool for much longer. He needed her to calm down, and fast. He had to play the obedient dog and listen to her every word. Luckily the anger and the news about Lilith woke Jefferson up, some what.
"Seeing as we left the café, do you mind if we go back to my place and continue there? I'll drive."

Ruby looked warily at the car. As a hunter he probably had it demon proofed. “I’m not up for a drive, but I’ll try and make this quick,” she glared at him, “Lilith missing isn’t good for anyone. The demons have no leader now, that means absolute chaos, power struggles and humans in the cross fire. As for the Winchesters, think about it. They’re gone, and so is she. Whatever did it was probably the same force, why would it do that? I can understand one or the other but both?” She shook her head and turned away from him, “We need to figure out who did this and why. I’ll be in touch.” With that she climbed into her own car and pealed out of the parking lot and took the quickest route to the freeway.

Ruby had a point, and Jefferson understood that. Yet trying to figure things out while he tried to stay in one place was impossible. The only way he was going to figure anything out if it happened close to Austin. Yet everything seemed to be happening over at Keystone, where Deacon was. The man was able to be contacted by Casey, which brought to mind if he had anything to do with all this. Too many problems and not enough answers. Jefferson rubbed his forehead with his thumb and index finger. Everything was happening way too fast, and the more it progressed, the more he couldn't comprehend. Jefferson went inside his car and drove off.
"Damn it Ruby. You were more of a bother then a help." Jefferson said to himself. He grabbed his cell phone and turned it off, in case Ruby tried to call again. The only thing that was on was the car and the sound of The Unforgivenby Metallica playing. When reaching the hotel and turned off the car. Sighing to himself, he closed his eyes and dozed off. Before he knew it, Jefferson was fast asleep.
