Great. Just perfect. Of course, the kid would screw up.
They were lost.
After taking the 35 freeway, passing tons of places which Victoria was for the most part completely unfamiliar with--Waco, Fort Worth, Dallas, Denton, among the many, though Dallas she had heard of--she and Chase had lost sight of Jefferson's bloody car.
To make matters even better, both of them had lost their cellphones. Well...not lost in the sense that they couldn't find them. More so lost in the sense that she had traded them off to a local vendor for some dazzling necklaces. It wasn't her fault though. How could a girl pass up diamonds? Put up in contrast with some cheap phones, she'd much rather have the jewelry. Besides, she didn't think they'd lose sight of stupid Jeff. The kid should've been driving more carefully, and now they were bloody freaking lost.
If they had been at sea, she would've known exactly where they were, or at least what direction to head in if she didn't know. But here, there was too much noise, too many buildings and cars and land and not enough rum.
Just a bit past the border of Texas and Oklahoma, they found themselves in a city called Ardmore at a local motel. The attempt had been to find a toll phone to use, but then came the realization that neither knew Jeff's number. Or even Adrian's and Simplicity's.
They stood outside of the motel, Victoria keeping a greedy gaze on a watch wrapped around a man's wrist as he passed by, but he got into his car before she ever had a chance to swipe it. Shameful, really.
"Nice going, kid," she chided, leaning against his bike. "You'd better be able to get us to whatever the hell state it was--South Dakota? I don't want to be stuck in the middle of no where for forever."
